Student and Assistant Session

Dear Participants,

There are different types of presentations and publications that are frequently encountered in scientific congresses and publication processes. This text aims to explain the concepts of oral presentations, poster presentations and panels that can be presented in a congress, and the concepts of case reports, research articles and reviews.

Congress Presentation Types:

  • Oral Presentation:

* Definition: A type of presentation in which researchers present orally their completed or ongoing original research work. Usually a certain amount of time is allocated (e.g. 10-15 minutes) and there is a section for questions from the participants after the presentation.

* Content: The purpose, methodology, main findings and conclusions of the research are summarized. Visual materials (slides, graphs, tables, etc.) are used to support the presentation.

* Objective: To announce the results of the research to a wide audience, receive feedback and interact with other researchers.

  • Poster Presentation:

* Definition: It is a type of presentation in which researchers display their work in a visual format (poster). The posters, which are hung on the boards allocated in the congress area, summarize the main elements of the research.

* Content: The poster usually includes the title of the research, authors, institutions, purpose, methodology, main findings, results and important visuals, if any. Participants can stand in front of the posters to interact one-on-one with the researchers and ask questions.

* Objective: To provide a more intensive interaction environment, to allow researchers to discuss their work in more detail and to support visual learning.

  • Panel

* Definition: A type of session where experts come together to present and discuss different perspectives on a particular topic or issue. It is usually moderated by a moderator.

* Content: Panelists may give short presentations on the topic or answer questions directly from the moderator and participants. Discussion and Q&A sessions are an important part of the panel.

* Objective: To evaluate a topic from different areas of expertise, to present various perspectives and to enable participants to gain more in-depth knowledge on the topic.

  • Types of Scientific Publications:

- Case Report:

* Definition: It is a type of publication in which a rare, unusual or interesting clinical event, symptom, diagnosis or treatment process is described in detail in health sciences such as medicine and psychology.

* Content: Demographic information, anamnesis, clinical findings, diagnostic process, treatment and response to treatment are presented in detail. Similar cases can be compared with a literature review and possible mechanisms can be discussed.

* Objective: To add rare conditions to the literature, to provide information and ideas to other researchers and clinicians, and to contribute to the formation of new hypotheses.

- (Research Article):

* Definition: It is the main type of publication that presents the results of an original scientific research in detail. It is usually published in peer-reviewed journals.

* Content: The article usually includes the following sections: Title, Abstract, Introduction (background and purpose of the research), Materials and Methods (how the research was conducted), Findings (results obtained from the research), Discussion (interpretation of the findings and their relation to the literature), Conclusion and References.

* Objective: To produce new scientific knowledge, to share this knowledge with the scientific world and to contribute to the advancement of the field.

- Review Article:

* Definition: It is a type of publication that systematically summarizes, analyzes and synthesizes the existing scientific literature in a particular subject area. It does not present new research data, but brings together and evaluates existing knowledge.

* Content: A review article presents a comprehensive literature review on the topic under review, compares and synthesizes the findings of different studies, and may indicate gaps in the field or future research directions. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have more rigorous methodologies.

* Objective: To provide researchers and practitioners with an easily accessible resource by summarizing existing knowledge in a field, identifying trends and debates in the field, and providing guidance for future research.

Important Note: Undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and specialization students under the age of 30 who will attend our congress from outside the province are offered accommodation at the Credit and Dormitories Institution with the protocol made by Isparta Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.
